About the location
An ideal location for South Coast cruising holidays! Also the perfect stopover for a channel crossing. Weymouth boasts one of the shortest passages across the channel.
We are a small but busy port and as one of the most attractive in Europe welcomes thousands of transits each year. Our friendly team look forward to your visit where you can enjoy relaxing in the charm of our beautiful old harbour and soaking up the atmosphere.
Weymouth and Portland Borough Council provides berthing for over 450 vessels, operating from two marinas in the inner harbour. The pontoons provide competitively priced berthing with fresh water and electricity available at most berths. The marina berths benefit from being in well sheltered waters, easy walking distance to the town or the beautiful golden beaches and safe bathing waters.
The venue comprises the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) and the adjoining commercial marina.
It has kick-started the regeneration of the former Naval Air Station at Portland, now known as Osprey Quay, where new residential, commercial and marina facilities are already underway.
Weymouth and Portland provides some of the best natural sailing waters in the UK, with facilities on land to match. The site has already hosted numerous international sailing events, including the 2006 ISAF World Youth Championships attended by over 60 nations.
During the games a ticketed onshore area from which spectators can view the competition is under consideration. This area would have the added benefit of a video screen to keep spectators updated on the action. Please be aware there would be no seats – standing or sitting on the ground would be the only options for spectators.
